Amazing seafood, impressive limestone rock formations, beautiful beaches and clear blue water….whats’s not to love about Krabi (or Ao Nang to be more precise)? Well the hordes of tourists I guess….many of them Scandinavian…..Indian….Russian. Luckily Seth and I are staying at a hotel on the quiet side of town, and we are enjoying the food, the landscape and each other.
Today we decided to join a tour to some of the islands in the area and some of the beaches only accessible by boat. I don’t like to be trapped by an organized tour but the alternatives were too expensive, and what’s not to love about an obnoxious Indian group joining in????
The first stop was Tup Island. Because the tide was low, it was possible to walk along the white, sandy causeway joining the neighboring island called Chicken Island, named after the shape of its unique limestone rock jutting out into the sea. I couldn’t wait to get into the water….first swim of the year!!! A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. water but a little rocky……it would get better later on.
The boat then took us snorkeling to the opposite side of chicken Island. The water wasn’t that clear due to the traffic in the area, but there were millions of yellow Marshall fish. A jelly fish got everyone out of the water and then a shark made everything that much more interesting (too bad I got in too late!!!). The fish were jumping everywhere around me and even nibbling on my sin…great fun!
We had lunch on the beach of Poda Island followed by swimming in perfectly azure waters and then it was off the the crown jewel of the tour: Pranang Beach which is on a secluded peninsular, inaccessible by car. Just a short walk along the beach is Princess Cave with a spirit house full of…..well penisses!!! The limestone formations are spectacular as is the view to the neighboring cliffs. The monkeys are cute too ;-). I wish I could ave stayed all day there….
After a sunset walk along the beach back home it was time for cocktails and more great seafood at a quiet beach restaurant in the area……I’m gonna come home really fat!!!!!!
Tomorrow we are planning to rent scooters and go to the Tiger cave and the national wildlife park….the scooter thing is gonna be FUN!! No more organized trips for me!!!!
